Garden Club

This week the Garden Club learned about ...
Building a Composting Area in the Garden

Salinas Valley Waste Management's representative Estela Gutierrez came to the garden and taught the club how to build their very own compost pile.

The students collected wood chips for the compost pile and watered each layer.

The students collected greens for the compost pile.
At the end of the day the garden club had a fully functioning compost pile in their garden.

Head Start Nutrition Class

Teaching to the senses ... hear, see, touch, smell and taste!

Pat is giving her Citrus Lesson to the Head Start Kids!

Ron helps each child squeeze their own fresh orange juice.

Pat gives each child their own Mandarin and showes them how to peel it on their own.

At the art table they each get to make their own orange tree.

The children each glue on their own tree trunk, leaves, and orange poem.
Then they get to practice using scissors and cut out 5 oranges for their orange tree.

The kids were so proud of their orange trees!
